Gold copy trading: XAUUSD into your MT4 and MT5 accounts
Gold is the instrument most signal channels trade and the one that punishes careless sizing fastest. CopyTraderTool copies XAUUSD trades from another MetaTrader account, a catalog provider or a Telegram gold channel, maps the symbol to whatever your broker calls it and sizes each trade so a stop costs the amount you chose.

A gold signal, sized by risk
The channel never mentions lots. Risk percent turns the stop distance into a lot size for your balance.
- Contract
- 100 troy ounces per 1.00 lot at most brokers
- Price move
- $1.00 move = $100 per lot, $1 per 0.01 lot
- Pip convention
- Usually 0.10 in signals; MT points are 0.01
- Hours
- Nearly 24h Mon–Fri, with a short daily break around 21:00–22:00 UTC
How gold copying works
From an MT4/MT5 source, the copier mirrors the position: a buy on the source becomes a buy on your account at your broker's price, and every later change (partial close, stop moved to breakeven, final close) is followed. From a Telegram channel, automatic recognition reads the post, fills an entry zone at its midpoint, opens one trade per take-profit if you choose that, and then follows replies such as close half or move SL to BE.
Gold moves fast enough that the details of execution matter. Set a maximum signal age so a post that reaches you late is skipped rather than chased, and a maximum slippage so a market order is not filled far from the price you expected.
Contract size and the two pip conventions
With the usual 100-ounce contract, a $1.00 move in gold is $100 on 1.00 lot and $1 on 0.01 lot. The confusion starts with the word pip. Most signal channels say a pip is $0.10, so a move from 2350.00 to 2351.00 is "10 pips". MetaTrader counts points in the last price digit, which on a 2-decimal gold quote is $0.01, so the same move is 100 points.
| Convention | One pip/point | Value per 1.00 lot | $1.00 move equals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signal channels (most) | 0.10 | $10 | 10 pips |
| MetaTrader points, 2-digit quote | 0.01 | $1 | 100 points |
| MetaTrader points, 3-digit quote | 0.001 | $0.10 | 1,000 points |
Because stops are copied as prices, the convention never changes what happens on your account. It does matter when you set things in pips, such as a fixed stop, breakeven trigger or trailing distance: check which pip your broker's gold symbol uses before typing a number. The pip value calculator lets you pick either convention.
GOLD, XAUUSD.m, XAUUSD+: symbol mapping for gold
Gold has more names than any other symbol. The copier matches all of these to the same instrument without any setup:
| Source name | Your broker's name | How it is matched |
|---|---|---|
XAUUSD | XAUUSD.m | Suffix stripped |
XAUUSD | XAUUSDm | Suffix stripped |
GOLD | XAUUSD | Built-in alias |
XAUUSD+ | GOLD.i | Suffix stripped, then alias |
ЗОЛОТО (Telegram) | XAUUSD.pro | Built-in Russian name, then suffix |
If your broker offers both a standard and a raw gold symbol on the same account, add a one-line mapping so the copier always picks the one you trade. Details in symbol mapping and broker suffixes.
Sizing gold trades
Gold's daily range is often $20–40, several times the dollar risk of a typical forex day on the same lot size. Copying lots one-to-one from a large account into a small one is the most common way gold followers blow up.
Risk percent on a gold signal
- Balance $17,000, risk 1% → $170 at risk.
- Entry 2352.00, stop 2343.50 → distance 8.50.
- Loss per 1.00 lot = 8.50 × 100 oz = $850.
- $170 ÷ $850 = 0.20 lots, split as 0.10 + 0.10 across two take-profits.
For a mirrored account, risk by balance or equity keeps the source's proportions. Whatever the mode, a max lot cap stops one oversized source trade from becoming an oversized trade on your side. Try your own numbers in the lot size calculator.
Risk notes specific to gold
- News spikes. US CPI, NFP and FOMC decisions can move gold $15–40 within minutes. Spreads widen and stops can fill well past their level. The news filter pauses new entries around high-impact events.
- Rollover spreads. Around the daily break gold spreads can widen from cents to a dollar or more. A trade copied into that window starts deep in the spread.
- Scalping channels. Some gold channels post many entries in quick succession. Maximum open trades, a duplicate check and the "same symbol" rule stop a burst of posts from stacking positions.
- Swaps. Holding gold overnight costs a financing charge that can be significant on multi-day trades.
Pair the copier with an EquityShield rule on your account so a bad day stops at a line you set in advance.
Gold copy trading: questions
Is a gold pip $0.10 or $0.01?
Both conventions exist. Most signal channels mean $0.10, MetaTrader points on a 2-digit gold quote are $0.01. Copied stops are prices, so the convention only matters for settings you type in pips, such as breakeven or trailing distances.
My broker calls gold GOLD and the source uses XAUUSD. Do I need to map it?
No. GOLD is a built-in alias for XAUUSD, and suffixes such as .m, m, + or .pro are stripped automatically. Map manually only if your account lists two gold symbols and you want a specific one.
How much does 0.01 lot of gold risk?
With a 100-ounce contract, 0.01 lot gains or loses $1 per $1.00 move. A $10 stop on 0.01 lot is about $10 plus spread and slippage.
Can I copy a Telegram gold channel?
Yes, if the channel is in our catalog. Automatic recognition reads common formats such as XAUUSD BUY NOW 2350-2355 SL 2340 TP1 2360, follows edits and replies, and sizes each signal with risk percent or a fixed lot. See Telegram signal copying.
Why did my gold trade open at a worse price than the signal?
Gold can move several dollars between the post and your fill, and the spread on your account is added at entry. Set a maximum signal age and maximum slippage so late or far-away entries are skipped instead of filled.
Can I copy silver the same way?
Yes. XAGUSD and SILVER are matched automatically. Silver's contract is usually 5,000 ounces per lot, so a $0.01 move is $50 per lot. Check the contract size in your symbol specification.
