MT5 to MT4 trade copier
The master account is on MT5, but the account you want to trade, or your followers' broker, only offers MT4. CopyTraderTool copies MT5 positions to MT4 accounts in our cloud, across brokers, with each follower sized for its own balance. The direction matters: MT5 can do a few things MT4 cannot, and this page covers how to handle them.

One MT5 master, MT4 followers
The MT5 position is mirrored on two MT4 accounts at different brokers, each sized by its balance.

When MT5 → MT4 makes sense
- Your strategy or prop account is on MT5, and your personal broker only offers MT4.
- You manage a master on MT5 and want to mirror it to MT4 accounts you own at other brokers.
- You trade by hand on MT5 (on the desktop or the mobile app) and want the same trades on an older MT4 account.
What MT5 can do that MT4 can't
| MT5 feature | On MT4 | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Buy stop limit / sell stop limit orders | Order type doesn't exist | Turn off pending-order copying if your source uses them, so only filled positions are copied, and test on a demo first |
| Netting accounts | MT4 is always hedging | The source must be an MT5 hedging account; netting accounts aren't supported |
| Partial fills of one order | Not applicable | The copier works with the resulting position, not individual deals |
| More symbols and asset classes | Smaller symbol list | Symbols your MT4 broker doesn't list are skipped and logged |
Market orders, the four classic pending types, stops, targets, partial closes and closes all have direct MT4 equivalents, so for most manual and EA strategies the direction makes no practical difference.
FIFO and no-hedging MT4 accounts
MT4 accounts at US-regulated brokers follow FIFO: positions on a symbol must be closed in the order they were opened, and opposite positions on the same symbol are not allowed. An MT5 hedging master that holds a buy and a sell on EURUSD, or closes its second trade before its first, will see those copies rejected on a FIFO account. If your MT4 account is FIFO, set the copier's "same symbol" rule to not allow multiple positions, or pick a source that never hedges.
Symbol and contract differences
MT4 servers often use older or different names: GOLD instead of XAUUSD, DJ30 instead of US30, # or . prefixes on CFDs. The copier strips suffixes and prefixes and knows the common aliases. Contract sizes for indices and commodities can still differ between the MT5 master's broker and your MT4 broker; read indices copy trading before mirroring index lots.
Setting up an MT5 → MT4 copier
- Add the MT5 hedging account as a source with its investor password.
- Add each MT4 account as a target with its trading password.
- Create one copier per MT4 account and choose sizing: risk by balance for proportional copies, lot multiplier for fixed ratios.
- If the master uses stop-limit orders, turn off pending-order copying for those copiers.
- Send a test trade to each copier, check History, then switch them on.

MT5 to MT4 copier: questions
Can I copy from MT5 to MT4 at a different broker?
Yes. Source and target can be at any brokers in the server list. Symbols are matched automatically, including aliases such as GOLD ↔ XAUUSD.
What happens to MT5 stop-limit orders?
MT4 has no stop-limit order type, so they have no direct equivalent. If your master uses them, turn off pending-order copying so only filled positions are copied, and test the behaviour on a demo account first.
Can the MT5 master be a netting account?
No. Netting accounts merge trades on a symbol into one position, so trades can't be tracked one by one. Use an MT5 hedging account as the source.
My MT4 account rejects some copies with a hedging error. Why?
It is probably a FIFO / no-hedging account (common at US brokers). Opposite positions on one symbol aren't allowed there. Set the same-symbol rule to not allowed, or copy from a source that doesn't hedge.
Is MT4 still worth using?
If your broker supports it and your tools run on it, yes. The copier treats both platforms the same. New accounts at many brokers are MT5-only, which is when copying between the two becomes useful.
